May 2014 | Michigan Soapmakers Conference | KCK Soapery

These were the goodies I received from my first ever Michigan Soapmakers Conference, held on Saturday, the 10th of May 2014, at the Alma Library.  This was just the second annual event, but they were able to have more attendees than last year.   It started out big then it dwindled.   They are now trying to get attendance back up again in the coming years.  Organizers and speakers are members of the Soapmakers Guild.

Fortunately for me, my mom is here visiting.  So I was not alone in a roomful of strangers.  We had fun listening and joining in the workshops and even met new friends.

They showed us how to make liquid soap.  Although, another fun and easy craft to make.  The making of liquid soap involves Borax and some preservatives, ingredients I don't need for cold process soap making and I am not ready to add more ingredients into my soaping arsenal.  I still am learning the cold process technique and decided to just wait till I at least make consistently great soap bars or at least find my niche before going to liquid soaps.

We also learned how to do a column swirl which I tried once a few weeks ago and failed.  My column was circular, small and short.  I will have to try it again soon.

My mom and I did this column swirl and we are pretty happy with the result.

The rest of the teams column swirl.

We also made a small tiger swirl.

Then we lined up and made a mess making bath bomb cupcakes.

The frosting were originally higher than these but we were right by the window and they eventually collapsed.

They also showed us how to make lotion.

It was a fun Saturday learning about soapmaking and meeting new people.

Winter 2014 Soap Swap Goodies

I went to buy supplies to restock our pantry and came home to a full blown snow fall as if the weather forgot it is supposed to be spring already.  My heart fluttered as I got inside the house and found a few boxes of shipment which included my supply of Olive oil and a box of handmade soaps from BrambleBerry Soap Swap.

Thank very much to Bramble Berry for hosting and sending extra goodies along with the 12 soaps.  I also received sunny herb garden fragrance oil and neon blue Raspberry colorant.  Bramble Berry also sent a soap that was made by the soap queen herself to the first packages they received for the swap.

I got Summer Melon Spritzer by Tara Keener, Fresh Snow Swirl by Sinsear Soap

Eucalyptus Spearmint Soap which did not include the name of the maker,  Pine Forest by Mt. Lebanon Soap Company
Rose Cake Soap by Little Haven Soap, My Beau by Junction Soap Works, Pineapple Salsa Soap by Winberg Bathworks
Honey Sunshine Soap by Lila Honeybee, Spiced Apple Cider by Bath Alchemy Lab
Amazon Lily and Rain and Lemon Grass Soap both did not contain the name of its maker as well

and Rosehip Jasmine made by Livvie Kate Soap Co.  These are all so beautiful and smells wonderful.  All the different colors and packaging are unique and beautiful.  So much to learn from all these soapers.

It now stopped snowing.
 Happy Soaping everyone...

Being a very brand new soap blogger I was not expecting to get any recognition or even be thought of in any nominations.  I was and am so honored to see my name in the list.  Thank you very much Cee Gee of Oil and Butter.  Your blog was one of the first ones I visited when I was still contemplating doing cold process soap making.   The Oil and Butter blog site has been a go-to site for me when I need inspirations and answers to questions about my soap making journey.  Thank you very much.

7 Things About Me:

I don't drink coffee.

I am from the Philippines, lived in Toronto and now is in Midland, Michigan

For years now I am craving for New York Fries, to me no other fries compares.  Would franchise it in a heartbeat, got to have the money first.

I used to love cross stitching, can't imagine doing it again.

I can't sing a single note.

Love quilting, the sewing machine don't like me though.

Soapmaking is my new addiction and I certainly hope to be good at it.
